I’ve had my Argus C3 “the Brick” (manufactured between 1939-1957) for several years but never thought to put film in it to see if it actually worked. It was purchased out of a sales bin for some $5 or so, and I figured it was probably broken, so I thought of it as more of conversation piece or paper weight. Yesterday, that changed. I cleaned it up a little, loaded it with some old Fujicolor Superia 400, and shot several frames. Needless to say, I was surprised to find that it not only works, but takes a good photo, too. Below are some of my test results. These were shot at 1/100 sec. at f/11. The last photo below was underexposed at those settings which is why you’ll see plenty of grain in the shadows. Images were taken in my neighborhood on the Upper West Side in Manhattan.
I’ve included a quick video clip on loading the Argus C3 with film.
